Free Yourself from Glasses and Contacts: LASIK by

Atlanta’s Top Eye Surgeons

Do eyeglasses or contact lenses interfere with your active life? Myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism once led to a lifetime dependence on corrective lenses.

Today, LASIK surgery can reverse these conditions, often restoring vision to 20/20 or better just one day after the procedure. The cornea specialists at Eye Consultants of Atlanta have pioneered its practice for more than 20 years.

What Happens During LASIK Laser Eye Surgery

LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) provides a safe, reliable, and generally pain-free method for enhancing vision and potentially eliminating the need for glasses or contact lenses. The procedure alters the cornea’s refractive properties, allowing light to pass through and focus accurately on the retina, resulting in clear vision.

In a quick and comfortable process lasting about 30 seconds, ultra-fast laser pulses create microscopic bubbles at a precise depth determined by your doctor. The laser moves uniformly across your cornea, forming rows of bubbles just beneath the surface. The Femtosecond laser then stacks bubbles around your corneal diameter, tailored to your eye’s unique shape. Subsequently, your doctor gently lifts the flap, facilitating the second step of your LASIK treatment. Once the treatment is finished, the flap is carefully repositioned, initiating the healing process.

Complete recovery generally takes a few weeks, with a temporary increase in sensations of dry eyes and glare around lights, expected to return to baseline over time.

“The results are amazing. If I have to get up in the middle of the night, I can see things clearly. I had the nighttime ritual of taking out my contacts and the world becoming blurry, but that is no longer the case.”
