Hemifacial spasm may present very similarly to BEB but is usually unilateral and will affect the entire side of the face. In contrast to BEB it may not abate with sleep. Its etiology it often related to some irritation to the facial nerve, but like BEB may often times be unknown. Treatment for this condition is identical to BEB, unless there is suspicion for a physical irritant to the facial nerve.
