On Sunday, January 28, 2024, Eye Consultants of Atlanta’s Dr. Ryan Whitted appeared as a guest on “The Weekly Check-Up” on News/Talk WSB Radio.

During the show, Dr. Whitted shared with host Dr. Bruce Feinberg his background and his decision to practice medicine. As a retina specialist, Dr. Whitted gave expert advice when answering callers’ questions, covering a wide array of topics including macular degeneration, eyelid twitching, flashes and floaters, retinal tears, and more.

In the final segment of the show, Dr. Whitted and Dr. Feinberg discussed diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Whitted explained, “The key is controlling the blood sugar, controlling the blood pressure, and the cholesterol. All three factor into how much – and if – the eyes, kidneys and nerves are affected. Once they are affected, sometimes, if you get your system under control, you can reverse those effects.” He also emphasized at a certain point these effects are no longer reversible, stressing, “Part of the importance there is we can look at you and a lot of this is preventable treatment or preventable lifestyle modifications.”

Dr. Whitted left listeners with one final message, “You’ve just got to go in, you’ve got to get seen. I’m happy to look at you if you have retina disease and your general eyecare provider can tell you if you need a retina specialist. We work at Cumberland, Newnan, Stockbridge, Fayetteville. We have a team of fantastic eye surgeons and eye providers and we’d really love to see you.”

Dr. Whitted is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist specializing in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous. His undergraduate degree is from Cornell University and his medical degree is from The University of California. He completed his residency training at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute and his vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Whitted practices at the Cumberland, Fayetteville, Newnan, and Stockbridge locations.
