During the show, Dr. Hayek shared with host Dr. Bruce Feinberg his decision to practice medicine and why he pursued the field of eye care.
Dr. Hayek gave expert advice in his answers to callers’ questions, covering a wide array of topics such as a detached vitreous, double vision, flashes and floaters occurring in one’s vision, and the impact diabetes has on eye health.
In the final segment of the show, Dr. Hayek and Dr. Feinberg discussed cataracts and cataracts surgery. Dr. Hayek emphasized that cataract surgery has come a long way and the procedure is significantly less invasive. Dr. Hayek shared that while cataract surgery previously rendered the patient immobile, nowadays, the surgery is an outpatient procedure, meaning the patient can return home shortly after the surgery is complete.
Dr. Joseph Hayek received a Bachelor of Science degree in cell and molecular biology from John Carroll University. He then received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed a transitional year residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Later, Dr. Hayek served as chief resident during his ophthalmology residency at Summa Health in Akron, Ohio.
